County news # 2This week the Marshall County Commissioners approved the LED lighting project with Telamon Corporation.

Commissioners Mike Delp is the lead on this project and said, “As I added it up there are 2911 bulbs that have to potential to be changed in the County Building and Court House.”  He said Councilman Jon Van Vactor has asked if any of the lights already installed by the county’s maintenance department could be included in the NIPSCO rebate.

Delp said he spoke with Bruce Breeding from Telamon and he said only those that were done within the last 90 days and meet the specifications for the rebate program.

The project estimate is $73,000 and with the NIPSCO rebate the cost drops down to $64,000.

Delp said the county should realize about $30,000 annually in energy saving, so the project would just about pay for itself in two years.

Delp said he and the auditor have looked at several line items in the commissioner’s budget to fund the project.  One line item that still has money available is group health insurance or the general liability insurance line item.

The Commissioners still need to seek council approval for the funding of the project.
