County News # 1Michael Morin from Business Information Systems presented the Marshall County Commissioners with a proposal to overhaul the audio and video system in the second floor meeting room of the County Building.

The proposal would include 12 news Boundary microphones with mute buttons and 6 desk-top monitors for board members.  The proposal also changes the audience viewing from drop down screens to 60 inch monitors mounted on the walls.

Morin explained to the commissioners that the recording device would allow for meetings to be podcast on the County’s website.  He said the new recording system will also allow the general public to access the podcast and search for a particular discussion during the meeting instead of having to listen to the whole meeting.

During an initial discussion with Business Information Systems the cost estimate was just under $50,000.  When Morin presented his proposal on Monday the bottom line was $72,547.99.  The proposal does call for the county’s tech to run the wiring for the project.

Commissioner Kurt Garner suggested looking at the possibility of video recordings of the meetings.  He said, “This is the way of the future, to have video.  I would encourage that. It’s just that much more public access to what happens in our meetings.”

The project is not in the 2018 budget or spelled out in the 2019 budget but the commissioners thought it could be paid for out of the Cum Cap fund since it is a capital improvement.

The commissioners tabled any action of the proposal to give them additional time to review it.  They will take it up again at their November 5th meeting.
