fatal crashMarshall County Police and the County Coroner are investigating a fatal crash on US 6 Monday afternoon.

42 year old Richard Knowlton Jr.  from Walkerton was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:34 p.m. after his vehicle collided with a wide load semi trailer.   The accident happened on US 6 east of Quince Road.

Officer Bragg with the County Sheriff’s Department reported that shortly after 5 p.m.  he was dispatched to a personal injury crash on U.S. 6.  It was determined that a 2000 Jeep Cherokee driven by Richard Knowlton Jr. was westbound on US 6 and an oversized 2001 International Semi was eastbound on US6.  Knowlton’s Jeep collided with the front driver’s-side area of the oversized load trailer.  After impact the Jeep rolled several times and came to rest on its side.

US6 was closed for several hours while police investigated the scene.

Marshall County Coroner John Grolich has ruled the cause of death for Mr. Knowlton was blunt force trauma.

Accident remains under investigation by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police.  Marshsall County Police were assisted at the scene by Walkerton EMS, Polk Township Fire Department, INDOT, and Marshall County Coroner, John Grolich.
