Jefferson Stoplight_1During Monday evening’s Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety meeting Mayor Mark Senter asked Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt to discuss the stoplight issue at Michigan and Jefferson Streets.

Jim Marquardt said he was contacted about the traffic signal for west bound traffic on Jefferson Street not getting a green light.  After checking on the situation he contacted INDOT since the stoplight is on State Road 17, commonly known as North Michigan Street and Jefferson Street.

Marquardt said on Saturday, west bound traffic had to sit through several light cycles before getting a green light and many drivers just ended up just driving through to the west on the red-light.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department also contacted the state about the issues.

Jefferson stoplight_2Since Monday was a holiday, Columbus Day, INDOT employees were not available to look at the issue.  The Plymouth School Corporation had buses who sat at the intersection for 15 minutes.  They finally called the police department and officers assisted them with getting through the intersection.

While the city is the one receiving the complaints this is a Indiana Department of Transportation issue.
