County News # 1On Monday the Marshall County Commissioners gave their support to the request of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department to apply for a federal NG 911 Equipment Grant.

Matt Pitney told the commissioner the Next Generation 911 Grant  was opened to the states recently and Indiana will be receiving at least $2.2 million.  He said there will be a small window open of opportunity for 30 to 45 days for counties to apply for funds in the next month.

Pitney said their recorder is 10 years old and at the end of life and they can no longer get parts for it.  This piece of equipment is extremely important because it records all 911 calls and radio traffic along with all the admin lines.

A new recorder costs about $100,000 and the Next Gen 911 grant is a 60/40 split.

The commissioners approved signing a letter of support to secure the federal grant for the new recorder at the jail when it becomes available.
