Jerry ChavezPresident and CEO of the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation, Jerry Chavez, explained the Stellar Communities Program at the last meeting of the Plymouth Lions Club.  The Marshall County Crossroads region is the largest region and is a finalist in the 2018 Stellar Communities Program.  It consists of leaders from Argos, Bremen, Bourbon, Culver, Lapaz, and Plymouth.

The Stellar Communities Program develops strategic community plans, promotes partnerships and implements comprehensive solutions to address the needs of the community.  It is a chance to connect with our communities and collaborate with each other.  A part of Marshall Counties Stellar Plan is the addition of walking and biking trails as part of a rural health project.

A thank you was presented to the Plymouth Lions for recent help and a new request for glasses was presented for a child that failed the eyesight test thru the KidSight Program.  The KidSight Program has begun for this year and a complete recap will be shared at the next meeting.  A separate account for a new Refractor was created.  The Refractor is needed for the continuance of the Kidsight Program.  The Club also approved a request to order dictionaries which will be presented to third grade students in our school corporation this fall.

A thank you went out to everyone who worked at the Marshall County Blueberry Festival.  Once again it was the biggest fundraiser for the year and a thank you also goes out to all who patronized the Lions Club Pavilion.  Another fundraiser is scheduled for this Saturday, September 29th at Wal-Mart.  Proceeds from this fundraiser are to celebrate White Cane Day.  It is with these fundraisers that we are able to help people in our community, whether it is for a pair of glasses or a Scholarship to the University of their choice.

As a Lion to Give is to Serve.  With a goal of serving 200 million people per year Lions Club International is kicking off a three year campaign to raise funds in order to help more Lions help more communities in need.  In the words of our National President, Gudrun Yngvadottir, “let’s rally ourselves.”  To be a Lion is to serve and help others have a better life.  If you would like to join the Plymouth Lions Club, please contact any Lions Club member.
