The Marshall County Drainage Board continues to work with the contractor on the Aquatics Center project along the Schuh Ditch.

County Surveyor Craig Cultice said the original plan was to discharge the groundwater into a detention basin and then into the storm sewer line before going into the ditch.  On August 23rd the engineer on the project requested bypassing the detention basin and discharge directly into the ditch with an 8 inch gravity fed pipe.  On August 30th, through an email vote the drainage board voted to approve the request.  Then on September 6th the surveyor was contacted by the project engineer with a second request, instead of discharging directly into the ditch he wanted to discharge the groundwater into a storm sewer manhole located on site and then into the pipe that leads into the ditch.

Monday morning the surveyor said since the board had already approved discharge into the ditch prior he approved the second request.  The drainage board ratified the request during their meeting.

Jerry Chavez from the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation presented a request to extend gas and electric lines across the approach to the property from the street.  Drainage Board president Kurt Garner said he handled the request last Friday.

Aquatic Center_Pipe_1Cultice told drainage board members it has been a policy to assist if feasible with the construction of a crossing across a regulated drain.  The assistance is paying for labor only and no material.

Aquatic Center_pipe_2The 9 foot culvert arrived in two sections weighing 3 ½ tons each.   The original contractor set up to install the pipe backed out because of a scheduling conflict.   Additional contractors were contacted and two submitted offers: Haskin’s Underground bid $18,000 and Ingram Excavating estimate was between $12,000 and $23,000.     Haskin’s Underground was awarded the project.
