Bourbon Wagner Way

The Bourbon Town Council voted unanimously during their September 11 meeting to pass a Resolution to rename Third Street to Wagner Way. The change was to honor the late Mark Wagner who served as the town attorney for more than 32 years. Wagner passed away earlier this year at the age of 67.

On hand to receive a duplicate street sign was his wife Jean Wagner and son Tony Wagner. Tony Wagner now serves, as his father did, as town attorney.

Mark Wagner’s years of service began in 1985. He served with four different Clerk-Treasurers and 15 different council members.

Among other contributions to several communities, Wagner has served on the Bremen Park Board, WNIT Board of Directors, and Ancilla College Board of Trustees. He was appointed to the Indiana Protection and Advocacy Commission by Governor Otis Bowen. It was noted during the meeting that Wagner was a supporter of youth activities including coaching tennis in Bremen for many years and contributing to local summer reading programs and Destination Imagination Teams in Bourbon.

Larry Wattenbarger, Bourbon Town Council, said, “Mark not only served his clients and communities with great compassion and dignity, he was also a loving husband, father and grandfather. Accordingly, it is fitting and proper, and therefore the purpose of this Resolution, for the Town of Bourbon to name a street within its incorporated boundaries, Wagner Way.”
