sobriety-checkpoints6The Bremen Police Department conducted a Sobriety Checkpoint recently on Saturday, August 11th.  The checkpoint was conducted at Plymouth Street and Bowen Avenue from 9 p.m. until midnight.

One hundred vehicles were stopped during the 3 hours and one hundred-twelve vehicles were allowed to pass around the checkpoint.  The average time drivers spent in the checkpoint was under 1 minute.

The results of the Sobriety Checkpoint were one driver arrested for Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated and one driver was given a Summons for Operating without Ever Receiving a License.

Other citations issued included  2 drivers with No Valid License, 1 driver had an Expired Interim Registration and 1driver was cited for Equipment Violation.

The Bremen Police Department conducted the Checkpoint with assistance from Bremen Reserve Officers. Bremen officers were funded through the Summer Impaired Driving Enforcement Project (SIDEP). SIDEP is a Federally Funded project which promotes a coordinated effort to reduce alcohol impaired collisions and fatalities through highly visible and sustained traffic enforcement in counties identified as having a high percentage of crashes involving impaired drivers.
