Indiana State Treasurer Mitchell spent much of August visiting twenty-five PSAPs (Public Service Answering Points) throughout the state of Indiana. Last week she stopped in at the Marshall County Centralized Dispatch Center and spoke with Matt Pitney, Communication Supervisor.
“Each dispatch center is unique, but a consistent thread throughout all the centers was the high caliber and commitment of the telecommunicators,” commented Treasurer Mitchell. “We discussed training practices and standards, and I saw Text-to-911 in action on many occasions.”
Her tour around the state focused on the top twenty-five PSAPs who utilize Text-to-911 in Indiana. This year, 2018, marks the second year of statewide Text-to-911 services being available to all Hoosiers. During its first year, 173,213 text sessions occurred to and from telecommunicators. The following year that number increased to 214,515 text sessions. The Statewide 911 Board continues to provide a public service campaign to inform Indiana residents of this service.
