Plymouth Library frontPlymouth Public Library (PPL), American Library Association (ALA), and PBS’s Great American Read present “The Great Marshall County Read” on Saturday, September 29th from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Sledding Hill in Centennial Park.  Join book lovers from all over Marshall County, as they assemble to support one of the “Top 10” books out of 100 books from PBS’s Great American Read.

The Plymouth Public Library has been tallying votes from their “Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner” promotion that asks patrons to pick their favorite books out of a rotating list of 25 displayed within the library every week for four weeks in September.  Free chicken dinners, from Penguin Point in Plymouth, are given to individuals who have their name pulled at random from the voting station.

The ten books with the most votes will move on to “The Great Marshall County Read,” where community members will be able to come and support their pick for the county’s most loved book.  Enlarged book titles will be placed in front of the Sledding Hill in Centennial Park and participants will be asked to stand next to their pick.  A drone will then fly over the event to take aerial photos to see which book has the greatest number of voters.

The book title with the most votes will be declared Marshall County’s Favorite Book!  Don’t miss out on this historic Marshall County moment!

Plymouth Public Library was 1 of only 50 libraries across the nation to receive a grant from PBS and ALA to participate in The Great American Read, an eight-part television series that explores and celebrates the power of reading. Told through America’s 100 best-loved novels (as chosen in a national survey), the series is comprised of a two-hour launch episode in which the list of 100 books is revealed. Five one-hour theme episodes will follow and examine concepts common to groups of books on the list. The finale will then announce the results of a nationwide vote to choose America’s best-loved book.  The series is the centerpiece of an ambitious multi-platform digital, educational, and community outreach campaign that is designed to get the country reading and talking passionately about books.
