Class of 1968 Robert Whitehead 2018 Distinguished Alumni

2018 Distinguished Alumni_1The Plymouth High School Alumni Association made major changed to their annual event and this year moved the program to River Park Square and joined it with the first night of the Mayor’s Month of Music event.

More than 2,000 people attended the evening event with many of them joining in the fun as several of the alumni classes gathered for celebrations.

Jodi Hillard Eveland from the class of 1993 served as emcee for the event and Pastor David Boys, class of 1978 gave the invocation.

Newly announced Plymouth High School Assistant Principal, Josh Martin, class of 1991 presented the Distinguish Alumni Hall of Fame Award to Robert Whitehead, Class of 1968.

After graduating from PHS Whitehead earned his BA at Taylor University and his MA in English Literature and Linguistics from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.  He extended his learning through Language Academy with ties to Belgium Corp. and Free University at Brussels and earned a French diploma in 1975. Richard Whitehead attended American Foreign Service Institute for Romanian language studies in 1995; Arabic studies in 2008-09, and fifteen other courses of various description.

2018 Distinguished Alumni_2Not only has Mr. Whitehead valued his own education but he devoted himself to bettering the education of others by serving as School Board Chairman at the American International School of Zambia from 95-98, was a school board member of the American School of Bucharest from 97-98, and Vice President of Treasure Coast Youth Sailing Foundation.

Assistant Principal Martin said, ‘This is an impressive display of lifelong learning, but more significant is the fact that much of this learning has been devoted to other key components of the ideal PHS grad:  Commitment to Service, Community and Country. This incredible knowledge has been put to use all around the globe as this inductee has exercised his leadership capabilities in a of departments, and collaborations in efforts to resolve conflict and solve problems.”

Martin closed his lengthy comments by saying, “Robert Whiteman isn’t superhuman thought.  He’s a man that has made distinguished choices in his education, work ethic and the causes he believes in.  Robert Whitehead is an exemplar example of how Plymouth High School hopes its students evolve 50 year after they leave it’s halls.”
