Stellar Regional_meeting_1Thursday morning 95 leaders from Marshall County and representatives from various organizations participated in an input session to discuss projects for the Regional Stellar Community grant application at the Swan Lake Resort.

The steering committee highlighted projects being considered for the application including housing projects in Argos, Bourbon and Plymouth.   Quality of Life projects included a trail in Argos,  phases 2, 3 and 4 of the trail in Culver, renovation of the Rees Theatre in Plymouth along with restoration of the old firehouse, and in Bremen a new community pool and a gathering space.  The development portion of the grant may include a commercial development/business park.

Jerry Chavez, President of the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation said several other project have been discussed but need more work including a sidewalk program in Argos, a commercial development in LaPaz at US 31 & US 6.  Other projects are access to the Yellow River across Marshall County, a Fieldhouse project in Plymouth and Bourbon securing a Main Street designation.

Stellar Regional_meeting_2During one of the breakout sessions groups suggested other projects such as trails connecting all of the towns in the county, art that could travel and be focal points for photo ops, and even the creation of a new building for the Neighborhood Center.

Marshall County is one of six regional stellar communities vying for millions of dollars to help implement a variety of projects.  The application is due mid September and designation will be announced towards the end of the year.
