County news # 2This week the Marshall County Commissioners decided to not take any action on the ordinance to eliminate motorized vehicles in the Memorial Forest or Mill Pond Forest.

The ordinance, was created at the request of Commissioner Mike Delp to address noise complaints from a neighbor and to stop the damage to the trails from dirt bikes racing on them.

The ordinance would have established a $100 fine for anyone caught operating a motorized vehicle in the county’s forests without first having written permission.

Delp said since the publicity of possibly restricting motorized vehicle it has greatly reduced the racing especially in the Memorial Forest.   He also said hed been contacted by a couple people who use their off-road vehicles for family recreation in the forest.

Delp suggested holding off on any ordinance at this time and see how things progress.  He did suggest placing signs to prohibit any racing that would cause damage to the trails be posted.

No official action was taken on the ordinance, although the three commissioners did agree to post signs at both locations to stop the racing of motor vehicles.
