Marshall County Commissioner Kurt Garner told the other commissioners he was contacted by two residents at Lake of the Woods who are concerned with some piers that have been placed at the end of Liberty Street. Garner said the piers are in the channel and connected to the county’s right-of-way. He noted that they have been located there for some time.
The county worked on this same issue several years ago and resolved the issue.
County attorney Jim Clevenger said a policy has been established and should work for anyone claiming they have access to their pier through the county’s right-of-way.
Commissioner Kevin Overmyer said having the piers in the right-of-way could affect then fire departments getting water from the lake.
The county attorney will review the ordinance and will send the property owners notice from the commissioners if that’s what it states the procedure is.
