Sunday morning about 8:30 Marshall County Police Officer O’Neal was dispatched to the 5300 block of Hawthorn Road in reference to a home owner who reported someone had damaged his mailbox and stolen some gas from his property.
When Officer O’Neal arrived on the scene he learned that between 12:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. that same morning someone had come onto the property and stole approximately 150 gallons of gas from an above ground fuel tank and then set off an explosive device in the mailbox.
This incident is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact the Marshall County Sheriff`s Department at 574-936-3187. The Marshall County Sheriff Department was assisted by the Indiana State Police and United States Postal Service Police Department.
