Plymouth Police Chief Dave Bacon confirmed that city officers went to Aldis at US 30 and Oak Drive about 3 p.m. on Memorial Day for the call of a man giving a dog CPR.
Both county and city police officers responded to the location. The Marshall County Humane Society was also called and the animal control officer responded.
According to Nancy Cox, Director of the Humane Society, the man was from the Chicago area traveling to Elkhart to visit family. He told the animal control officer his dog had an accident in the vehicle and he pulled over in the Aldi parking lot to clean up the mess. He noted that it was very unusual for the dog to have an accident in the vehicle.
He got the dog out of the car and gave it water and was walking it a bit when it collapsed. Cox said she suspects the dog had some kind of medical condition because blood was coming from its nose and mouth.
Cox said, “The dog’s owner was trying to get help for the dog and was very distraught over the situation. She continued, “It was a heartbreaking situation.”
Plymouth Police did not do any kind of report on the incident leading us to believe there was no negligence on the part of the dog owner.
