PHS_Winds2018_1The Plymouth High School indoor winds competition team recently completed their 2018 season with performances at both the state and national championships.

The Plymouth Winds compete in World Class competition, which is the hardest and most challenging division of competition at both the state and national levels. In the state tournament serious the Plymouth Winds ended their season in third place at the state championships and earned the prestigious Bronze Medal. At both the state and national level, the top three groups are recognized with olympic-style Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.

The team went on to compete at the WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio, on April 21st and 22nd. There were nearly fifty groups from across the country who attended the event competing for the championships in three levels of competition. Only three schools from Indiana attended the national championships. Plymouth placed sixth in the nation in the World Scholastic Winds division.

“We are so very proud of our students and their ability to compete against some of the absolute best band programs from across the nation. Our students work incredibly hard every season for this activity and our program gets a little stronger every year,” said PHS band director Bryan Ames. “It is just a remarkable thing to see you kids performing for a national championship and watch all of their months of hard work pay off at the end of the season.”

“Our team has been very fortunate to have the support of U.S. Granules as our lead donor. U.S. Granules has chosen to support this activity since we started the program three seasons ago and has continued to support this program each year,” said Ames. “There are over fifty kids in this activity and without this tremendous support, we would not be able to attend the national tournament every season.” The band department would like to thank U.S. Granules for their continued support of the music programs at Plymouth High School.

Congratulations to the Plymouth High School Band and the Plymouth Winds on their continued success at the state and national level!
