Earth Hug Boogie LogoUpcoming Earth Hug Boogie Week is April 16-22 in Plymouth and Marshall County. George Schricker and Marsha Heintzberger had a great idea for celebrating Earth Day, and what has grown out of that idea is awesome. We are going to have a fantastic week!

Heartland Artists Gallery wanted to be a part of this and has added several venues to celebrate Earth Day as well as offer interactive events. First, the Gallery’s’ members have beautiful art in all media, all colors and all sizes that celebrates nature and all that it has to offer. The featured artist, Cindy Jackson, is displaying her close-up photography with a different eye on nature. In addition, Bonnie Zimmer, environmental artist will be displaying her collections of nature’s during that week. Bonnie Zimmer has been at the Gallery before and had rave reviews of her one-of-a-kind art. She takes natures’ collections and weaves them with discarded items she finds. It is a form of art like no other and you will be amazed at the collections she weaves.

There will be art painted on the sidewalk on the corner of LaPorte and Michigan Street (in front of Heartland Gallery) to share the ‘Celebration of Water’. Sister Mary from MoonTree Studios, Cris

Short from Lincoln Junior High and Jayne Jacobson from Heartland will assist Lincoln Junior High students to paint and celebrate the cycle of water from the water fountain above ground to the drain below ground and the river that travels through the city!

KVHS2The Gallery will offer ART CLASSES on Monday, April 16 with Bonnie Zimmer assisting kids and adults in making their own Mandala pieces. Students will learn about cultures that honor the earth by creating circular works of art and restoring balance to our earth. All supplies included. Kids Class (ages 8-12) on Mon. 16th from 4 – 5:30 for $10 per student at the Gallery. Another class for ages 13+ through 100 yrs on Mon. 16th from 5 – 6:30 for $18 at the Gallery.

EarthHugBoogie_RainBarrel_2Heartland and Marshall County Recycle Depot are collaborating for this earth week awareness by raffling off artistically painted rain barrels. Anna Kietzman and Jayne Jacobson will oversee kids painting a rain barrel at Marshall County Recycle Depot. And Jayne Jacobson, Kathy Zentz, and Rosie Mireles are each painting another barrel. The barrels will be raffled at noon Saturday, April 21 at the Recycle Depot. To register for this raffle to win your own rain barrel visit MC Recycle Depot or Heartland Artists Gallery and sign up.

Sunday, April 22 is actually Earth Day and there will be a great end of the week celebration of Earth Hug Boogie Week in River Park Square from 1-5 pm. Music, booths, kids activities, guest speakers and dance will all take place in the Park. Heartland is bringing in guest speaker, Bonnie Zimmer, an incredible environmental artist and she will be talking about ‘The Wonder Under Our Feet’. Let’s all celebrate Earth Hug Boogie Week and Earth Day.
