House Enrolled Act 1007 allows the Division of Mental Health and Addiction to approve nine additional hospital-based opioid treatment programs. Once these centers open, every Hoosier will be less than an hour’s drive from a treatment program.
“We are in the midst of an opioid crisis in Indiana,” Head said. “It’s vital that we ensure there are enough treatment centers for Hoosiers to get the help they need, and this bill will do exactly that.”
The bill also urges the Legislative Council to assign an interim study committee to study the impact the opioid treatment programs have on neighborhoods and communities in the area.
HEA 1007 becomes effective July 1, 2018.
