County BuildingThe Marshall County Council will conduct their December meeting on Monday at 9 a.m. in the second floor meeting room of the County Building.

The council will hear the request of Tan Klotz, president of the County Plan Commission to fund a part-time Code Enforcement position for 2018.

Plan Director Ralph Booker has told the Plan Commission he doesn’t have time to handle all the violations around the county including some locations in the various communities in the county he assists.

Klotz will discuss with the council the need to a part-time person to assist and seek approval for the new position in 2018 along with the required funding.

Also on the agenda will be Marshall County Commissioner Kurt Garner who will be asking the County Council to consider a new job description for the Administrative Manager’s position at the County Highway Department.   Garner and Commissioner Mike Delp are interested in finding someone with an engineer’s degree to fill the position.   While the roughly $40,000 salary would not be enough to find an engineer, the state will provide an additional $20,000 for an engineer.  It was suggested to either not fill the current vacant clerks position at the highway and use that salary to increase the funding available or seek an additional appropriation bringing the salary up to a range of $65,000 to $75,000.

The county council will also hear from Marlene Mahler, County Recorder.  She will discuss plat book repairs.  They will also consider transfer and additional appropriation requests.

The meeting is open to the public but comments are limited to the first order of business.
