Culver Stellar Year RoundLieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch announced last Thursday that the Town of Culver was designated as the State of Indiana’s 2017 Stellar Community for Division II. As one of two designees, Culver’s Stellar Committee has been invited to the Statehouse in Indianapolis Wednesday, October 25th to celebrate the designation with Lieutenant Governor Crouch, elected officials, and administrative officials from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, Indiana Department of Transportation, and additional participating state agencies.

A “Stellarbration” will also take place in Culver on Wednesday, November 8th at 3:00 p.m. with Culver’s Stellar Committee, local and regional elected officials, administrative staff from state agencies, and Lieutenant Governor Crouch in attendance at the Culver Park Beach Lodge, located at 819 East Lakeshore Drive in Culver. The event is free and open to the public. State officials and Lieutenant Governor Crouch will present on the Stellar Communities program, and Culver’s Stellar Committee will review the local efforts and projects included. Following the presentation, an open house will take place from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. where residents can ask questions and find out more information about Culver’s Stellar projects and light refreshments will be served.

The Stellar Communities Designation Program is a multi-agency partnership designed to recognize communities that adopt best practices and address issues related to population growth, attracting private investment, increasing educational attainment, and providing economic improvement in their communities.

Potential projects in Culver’s Stellar Project List include: Sand Hill Farms Housing, a workforce housing development on West Jefferson Street; the Lake Maxinkuckee Bike and Pedestrian Trail; major renovations of Culver Park’s historic Beach Lodge on Lake Maxinkuckee; creating a western gateway to town on West Jefferson Street; improved bicycle and pedestrian connectivity with additional sidewalks and connecting trails; developing a new sports park at Culver Community Schools; and improving recreational access to and programming on Lake Maxinkuckee.
