LionsClub_Sandy Read & Allie ShookThe last meeting of the Plymouth Lions Club was opened with words from Past District Governor David Court of Lakeville.  He explained to several new prospective members of the Lions Club what the Club was all about and many of the projects that are completed each year, like the scholarships for seniors, and the Kidsight program, and the school for the blind just to name a few.  Lions serve and the Lions motto is helping others have a better life.

The Club was honored to have Sandy Read, the Community Wellness Coordinator for the Purdue Extension, who talked about the connections between the Purdue Extension Office and Discover Plymouth.  Among many other things, Sandy was responsible for obtaining a grant to hold the Active Living Workshop last September.  She then introduced Allie Shook who is the President of Discover Plymouth.  Discover Plymouth is a new non-profit organization in Plymouth dedicated to revitalization and sustained growth of downtown Plymouth and has a main street designation from the State of Indiana.

Indiana Main Street encourages community-driven revitalization of downtown areas in Indiana cities and towns.  The people who make up the Main Street network are passionate advocates, dedicated volunteers, influential stakeholders, and community organizers who work every day to turn the tide in their communities – catalyzing reinvestment, creating jobs, and fostering pride of place.

In other business, the Kidsight program is underway and several requests for assistance were presented to the club for various eye needs.  The Blueberry Festival fundraiser was a huge success this year and all were thanked for their participation.  The next fundraiser will be White Cane Day which will be November 11th at Wal-Mart.

In the words of our International President, Together, “We Serve” over 100 million people each year.  While this number is amazing, his focus is on another number.  This year his deepest wish is that each of the 1.4 million Lions must serve.  We need some Lionism from every Lion.  If you or anyone you know would like to join the Plymouth Lions Club, please contact any Lions club member.
