County News_logoThe Marshall County Commissioners were updated on two bridge projects during their meeting on August 21st.

Laurie Johnson from DLZ gave a brief update on the Hickory Road bridge replacement projects scheduled for bidding on February 7th, 2018.   The Mitigation pacel has been submitted to INDOT for review along with the Right-Of-Way Certification and Cardno has completed their plan for the mitigation site although DLZ will be reviewing the plan in the next couple of weeks.

All permits for the Hickory Road bridge project have been approved along with the design exception request which will require the county to reduce the speed from 55 mph to 45 mph prior to opening the bridge for travel.

Johnson said, “Things are in real good shape.”

Ben Beer from USI gave an update on the Apple Road bridge project.  Paving was to be completed by the 23rd. There were still guard rails to install and seeding to be completed on the project.  He said there are no change orders on the project and everything was within the budget.

Beer also commented on the King Road bridge project.  The current plan is to continue with the conventional federal aid funding mechanism.  He’s anticipating a notice to proceed with engineering for the bridge project in the third quarter of this year.

Following the commissioner’s meeting Beer took a look at the Baker Street Timber bridge installed several years ago.  There have been a few comments that the sidewalk area, which is more like a wood deck has some loose boards.  The County Highway was going to make any needed repairs.
