County news # 2Jason Peters from the Marshall County Highway Department told the Commissioners on Monday that he intends to ask the County Council for an additional appropriation and transfer to continue with this season’s paving projects.

Peters, the Highway Supervisor said he was going to ask the council to approve a transfer from stone to bituminous and an additional appropriation of $550,000 to $600,000 during their next meeting on September 11th.

Marshall County Commissioner Kurt Garner commented that they have only asked the council for the 25% match of $400,000 for the Community Crossing grant and nothing extra this year.

Commissioner Kevin Overmyer said, “Everything I’ve driven on that the county highway has improved this year is good.”

The commissioners unanimously supported the Highway Department’s request for an additional appropriation and the transfer.

Highway Administrator Laurie Baker said she was notified Monday morning that the Community Crossings grant awards wouldn’t happen until late September or early October.  Since most bids are only good for 60 days, she will hold off on seeking bids for the county’s proposed projects until closer to the grant award.
