4-H Goldberg Award Winners 2017On Sunday, August 20, Marshall County had a team of five 4-H girls travel to the Indiana State Fair to compete in the 4-H Rube Goldberg Engineering Challenge.

A Rube Goldberg invention is a machine or device that takes several steps to complete a simple task, using everyday household items. For this year’s challenge, these young engineers were asked to raise and wave a 4-H flag, using at least ten steps. Members of the Marshall County Dream Builders include Morgan Langfeldt, Marisa Langfeldt, Ellie Jones, Lena Jones, Cassidy Riddle, and Coach Morry Riddle.

The team worked for several weeks, brainstorming, designing, building, testing, and rebuilding to successfully achieve the task. During the challenge, the team presented their invention to the judges and received the highest award at the state. The judges were impressed by the overall teamwork, creativity, and perseverance that these girls demonstrated to make this challenge fun and successful.
