The Marshall County Solid Waste Board of Directors approved the 2018 budget during their meeting this week.

Executive Director, Marianne Peters said priorities for next year’s budget include repairs to the loading dock, asphalt resurfacing, a digital marketing campaign, an Earth Day celebration including a shredding event and a specialized program for the Marshall County 4-H Fair.  She also included a demonstration rain garden installation that could be completed with the help of a Boy Scout Eagle Project and a grant from Marshall County Soil and Water Conservation District along with additional staff training.

The approved budget for 2018 is $320,740 and includes a 3% raise for the three full time employees.  In comparison, this year’s approved budget is $336,378.

The 2018 budget was approved by a by a 4 to 1 vote with 2 members absent and Kevin Overmyer voting no.  Overmyer voted no to the last several budgets because he feels the director’s salary is too high.

The director’s salary is $60,000 this year and with the raise for 2018 will be $62,000.
