County news # 2

Marshall County Commissioner Kevin Overmyer said an emergency situation arose at the County Sheriff’s Department a couple of weeks ago with the 911 Center.  The battery backup cabinet isn’t providing enough power when there is an electrical outage before the generator system has a chance to power up.

Overmyer said, “When the power goes out, the 911 center goes down and those emergency calls are transferred to 911 Dispatch Center in Kosciusko County.”

Gary Masterson, head of maintenance at the Sheriff’s Department said the generator system has plenty of power but the battery backup cabinet is too small.

Commissioner Overmyer, County Council President Judy Stone, Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel, 911 Coordinator Matt Pitney and Masterson met at the Sheriff’s Department to consider the issue.  Sheriff Hassel said it was a safety issue to have 911 down.  They determined it was an emergency situation.  This declaration allowed the county to seek the services of M & J Electric Plus to correct the issue without going through the process of seeking quotes.
