A welfare check Monday evening just after 7 in Las Vegas ended with the gruesome discovery of the bodies of a father, a baby son and a mother, who lost their lives in an apparent murder-suicide.

According to Las Vegas Metro Police, a doctor originally from Plymouth, Indiana shot his 11-month-old son, the child’s mother and the family dog before he turned the gun on himself.

The Clark County coroner’s office said 40 year old John Henry Lunetta killed his 11 month son John Dylan Lunetta, 34 year old Karen Michelle Jackson and the family’s pet Labradoodle before he turned the gun on himself.  Police believe the shooting happened Sunday evening.

John Henry Lunetta, a doctor, was the regional director of the American Red Cross and a 1996 graduate of Plymouth High School.  His LinkedIn page shows he had a fellowship at Indiana University School of Medicine in transfusion medicine and blood banking.

Investigators are now working to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.  Police do say they had visited the residence in the recent past for a custodial argument.
