Solid Waste new logoDo you know how much water you use every day?

The Recycle Depot is partnering with the Marshall County Soil & Water Conservation District to promote wise water use. Their eye-popping exhibit at the Marshall County Fair will demonstrate just how much water the average person uses every day—and you might be surprised!

Soil & WaterWith all the rain lately, conserving water might not seem necessary. However, just last year the state experienced drought conditions. “We take water for granted because we have easy access to safe, clean, abundant water just by turning on the tap,” said Debbie Palmer, educator and administrator at MCSWD. “If we don’t take care of what we have today, future generations may not be as lucky.”

“Conserving water is so easy,” adds Marianne Peters, director of the Recycle Depot. “Mostly it’s being aware—not letting the faucet run, fixing that leaky toilet, using a commercial carwash instead of doing it yourself. It’s also being aware of what we put into the water supply, such as medications that waste water treatment plants aren’t equipped to handle. There are better ways to dispose of meds.”

At the exhibit, visitors will find resources for water conservation at home or on the farm, including cover crops, rain gardens, rain barrels, and information on places to drop off used medicines throughout the county. Think you know how much water you use? Take the quiz and find out!

The booth will be located in the Commercial Building at the Marshall County Fair beginning Sunday evening, July 16 through Friday night, July 22.
