PoliceCamp_2017_Graduates and CounselorsThe 2017 Marshall County Law Enforcement Youth Camp conducted at the Potawatomie Wildlife Park in Tippecanoe, Indiana on June 23, 24 and 25 was a great success. Campers arrived at the Park on Friday June 23 and were treated to information and demonstration by the Elkhart Police Department E.O.D. also known as the bomb squad. Information was shared with the campers on types of calls the E.O.D. unit response to and the equipment they have to deal with threat. They also demonstrated several different types of explosives and how powerful they are.

PoliceCamp_2017_Lake County SheriffOn Saturday morning the campers got to see and hear from the Lake County Sheriff’s Department Aviation unit. They flew their helicopter in and landed at the park. Campers got to hear how the aviation unit is used, details of calls the unit has experienced and a close up of the helicopter and all the equipment it has. Shortly after their departure Lutheran Air E.M.S. helicopter landed at the park and campers were able to talk to the crew and see a close up of their helicopter and equipment they carry.

PoliceCamp_2017_Lutheran AirSaturday afternoon the campers were transported to the F.O.P. firearms range were the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department and Rensselaer Police Departments S.W.A.T. team put on several demonstrations. The campers got to see a hostage negotiation, building entry with flash bangs, live fire exercise, and sniper fire. They also got to see all the equipment the team had and learn to shot themselves with airsoft guns.

Saturday night the campers got to see a demonstration put on by local police and fire departments of an O.W.I. traffic accident requiring a burning vehicle to be extinguished, passengers extricated and the driver being arrested.
