County news # 2The Marshall County Commissioners have agreed to sponsor a Community Development Block Grant through OCRA for the Marshall County 4H Fair Board.

Long Range committee member Angel Balsey reminded the commissioners on Monday that they had paid for DLZ to take a look at the fairgrounds in Argos and complete a study.  The Long Range committee has been working to implement the changes they recommended.  One of those recommendations was the construction of a Community Center that could be used year-round and assist with additional revenues to help the fair board to become self-supported.

Between the Fair Board and council the county provides approximately $27,000 yearly.

The Fair Board is working on a $500,000 grant to build the Community Center.  Total cost for the construction is estimated at $750,000.

A countywide income survey will be completed as part of this grant’s paperwork.  The results of the income survey will become the property of the commissioners and any other agency needing the information would be able to obtain it.

The multipurpose building would be used for wedding receptions and even possibly a better location for the Senior Expo.

The county commissioners unanimously approved becoming the sponsor for the grant.

A public hearing will be held on May 15th during the commissioner’s meeting for the grant application.  If successful, an inter-local agreement will be created between the county and the 4H Fair board for the grant.
