Jim HulseJim Hulse appeared before the Marshall County Commissioners Monday morning to continue his quest to get the “jake-break” noise from farm semis stopped near his residence at 4B and Quince Road.

In December Hulse first approached the commissioners with his concern of the semis hauling manure from the Houin Dairy Farm and using their noisy “jake-brakes.”  He told the commissioners the noise was a contributing factor of his son taking his own life, because he could not sleep with all the noise.

Commissioner President Kevin Overmyer said he spoke with Floyd Houin back in December about the noise and was told the semis were actually hauling south from the farm and shouldn’t be going past the Hulse property.

In December Hulse wanted the county to enact a noise ordinance or post signage prohibiting the use of “jake-breaks.”  The commissioners weren’t inclined to take that kind of action and felt that talking to the farmer might fix the issue.

Hulse said in the meeting Monday, “You haven’t done anything Kevin!  I expected more from you.”  He closed his comments by saying, “You will hear from me if that continues.”
