ljh_treeThe Plymouth High School class of 1964 has generously donated a tree and is covering all the costs to plant the tree outside Lincoln Jr. High School.

Denny Bottorff, a member of the class of 1964, helped coordinate the purchase of a Ginkgo biloba tree from Price Nurseries in Plymouth.

A small ceremony will take place outside the school on Thursday, April 6 at 9:30 a.m. which is open to the public.

Bottorff, who will represent the class of 1964 at the ceremony, said Prices will deliver the tree shortly before the ceremony. The tree will be planted near the spot where the old tree was removed late last year.

The Ginkgo biloba tree is also known as a ginkgo, or a maidenhair tree. This type of tree is said to be the only living species in the division Ginkgophyta, all others are said to be extinct. The Ginkgo biloba tree has been found in fossils dating back 270 million years.

The tree will eventually be dedicated to members of the Plymouth High School class of 1964 who have passed away. Members of the PHS class of 1964 are creating a memorial plaque that will eventually be put near the tree.

Lincoln Jr. High School staff and students, along with their families are encouraged to attend.

A rain date of Friday, April 7 at 9:30 a.m. has been chosen in case of inclement weather.

Administrators of both Lincoln Jr. High School and the Plymouth Community School Corporation thank the PHS class of 1964 for their generosity.
