Robin KupkaThe Plymouth School Board appointed Robin Cupka to the Board during a meeting on November 1. Cupka fills a seat vacated by Jenny Sickmiller. Sickmiller resigned at the October meeting.saying she had moved out of the district and was no longer allowed to hold the seat.

Cupka did take her place with the rest of the Board members, but abstained from voting saying she had not reviewed the agenda items.

According to Board President, Todd Samuelson, they received six letters of interest from the public concerning the position. Four of those were interviewed; however, one withdrew from consideration.

All three reaming candidates were at the meeting to hear the appointment announcement.

Cupka said her two children, Grace and Quentin both graduated this year from Plymouth High School. Among other involvements, Grace was in the first class of the Weidner School of Inquiry and a member of the Speech and Debate Team. Quentin served as a manager on sports teams. Cupka said, “My goal is to continue on keeping our school system one of the finest in the state.”

“ I think our students are very, very lucky.”

Cupka graduated from Plymouth High School with fellow board member, Melissa Christiansen. She said listening to Christiansen’s dedication was one of the reasons she chose to apply for the position.

At this point, the appointment is for the next two months only. The board will have to make an appointment in January of 2017. Cupka would be eligible for reappointment.
