Susan Circle Quilters2016_1The Culver-Union Township Public Library welcomed the Susanna Circle Quilters of Wesley United Methodist Church, Culver, for a special presentation about their First Ladies quilt on October 6th.

The Susanna Circle Quilters began 17 years ago as a workshop to members of the church for anyone wanting to learn the basics of quilting. Since then they have evolved into a very active group of quilters. They have hosted several successful quilt shows, contribute to philanthropic organizations and every new baby born into Wesley Church receives a quilt made by the quilters. If you are wondering how they got their name, it was in honor of Susanna Wesley, the mother of John Wesley who was the founder of the Methodist denomination. She was a quilter and the mother of 19 children.

Susan Circle Quilters2016_2The First Ladies quilt is now proudly on display at the Culver Union Township Public Library through Veterans Day, along with some interesting little-known facts about the various First Ladies and their corresponding quilt block. The First Ladies blocks are traditional and date back to the 1800’s patterned after an antique quilt.

Susan Circle Quilters2016_3The Susanna Circle Quilters are also displaying their Homespun Galaxy quilt at CUTPL. This quilt will be available for purchase via silent auction, with the proceeds going to fund the Susanna Circle Quilters charitable and philanthropic projects.

Stop by Culver Library now through Veterans Day and admire the beautiful quilting of our local Susanna Circle Quilters.
