Last month the Marshall County Council took no action on the request of Jim Burroughs to help fund the on going fiber project in the Town of Argos.

Burroughs had said Rochester Telephone was hired to bring high speed intent to the town, industries, school, businesses and residents in the three-phase project at a cost of $200,000. Burroughs said that Argos was fulfilling the county’s desire to provide high speed internet and sought $75,000 from the county to assist with paying for the project.

In the June County Council meeting members took no action on the request. During Monday’s meeting the council was presented with an additional appropriation request from the Rainy Day Fund in the amount of $75,000 for the Argos fiber project.

With several members of the Argos Town Council in attendance Commissioner Kevin Overmyer said, “My self, Kurt (Garner) and Deb (Griewank) had a request from the Argos Town Council to attend their last meeting.” He indicated that Steve Harper, Jon VanVactor and Heath Thornton also attended the meeting. Overmyer said, “There was any action at the last council meeting so we are presenting this for some type of action.”

Judy Stone President of the County Council told members they must take action on the request by either approving, denying or modify it.

Council member Jon Van Vactor motioned to deny the request and it was seconded by Steve Harper. The County Council voted 5 to 2 to deny the $75,000 for the Town of Argos. Council members Judy Stone and Jim Masterson voted against the denial.
