The Michigan Road Bridge removal and project that included the construction of a new road connection North Michigan Road to the old US 30 received a three week extension. The extension was granted after it was determined that a specific pipe had to be replaced for drainage.

According to Doug Moats,Media Relations Director for the Northwest District of the Indiana Department of Transportation, “The construction project will be complete in the next 10 days, weather permitting.”

An issue with unsuitable soils for the 3rd Road project developed during the course of this project and County engineers are doing soil samples now on 3rd  Road seeking a solution. Because of this issue, 3rd Road will not open at the same time Michigan Road opens. Moats said, “It will likely stay closed at least a week or longer to resolve issues with the dirt.”

INDOT reminds drivers that this project is still going on. They have had several complaints from the construction workers of drivers going around the barricades. This not only puts the drivers in harm’s way, but also the workers. This project will be done very soon and INDOT is asking motorists to be patient.
