This week the Plymouth City Council unanimously approved appropriating the maximum amount of matching grant funds for Indiana’s Community Crossings grant program.

The state program is allowing communities to apply for up to a million dollars in additional funding for road and street projects. The grant does require a 50/50 match.

The Plymouth City Council voted Monday to begin the process of appropriating a million dollars for the local match. Funds will come from the additional distribution of Local Option Income Tax (LOIT) and the city’s Rainy Day Fund. $550,000 will come from LOIT and $450,000 from Rainy Day.

City Attorney Sean Surrisi said having the matching funds appropriated would increase the city’s flexibility with the program. He indicated that although the city would have a million dollars for the matching grant, the city wouldn’t use it all if they don’t receive the maximum grant amount. Surrisi said, having the funding in place will allow the city to take advantage as soon as the award it available.
