PHS_Volleyball Camp 2015The 2015 Plymouth Volleyball Camp was a hit this summer for 62 students heading into first though ninth grade come August! The four-day camp was held this year on June 22nd through June 25th inside the Lincoln Junior High School Gym.

The camp has been going on for years, however this was the fourth year PHS Volleyball Coach Derek Eveland has been involved. Last month Eveland was named as the new Head Volleyball Coach at Plymouth High School, prior he served as the Varsity PHS Assistant Volleyball Coach for the past 3 seasons.

He said new at this year’s camp, students in first through third grades were allowed to be part of the action. Eveland said another new element to this year’s camp… they were able to give mini volleyballs to the camp goers thanks to donations provided by the Centier Bank branch here in Plymouth.

Oliver Ford Sales Inc. in Plymouth also provided a large amount of the donations needed for the camp to purchase and provide t-shirts for all of the participants. Yoder’s Sports Center gave Eveland a discounted price to print the t-shirts as well.

Thanks to the generosity of the Plymouth business community this year Eveland said they were able to provide the girls with prizes for their accomplishments, along with awards and candy giveaways.

“I really feel like the volleyball program overall is in a good place throughout the entire school system. We have a good tradition of winning from Riverside to the high school level,” said Eveland. He went on to say, “The goal is not only to win, but to have fun and be respected in the community.”

The Plymouth High volleyball players volunteered their time helping out at the camp as well.

“The team really did a nice job of connecting with the younger kids who participated in camp this summer, you could really tell the younger kids truly looked up to them,” said Eveland.
