Friday afternoon the Plymouth Fire Department responded to the restrooms building near the Girl’s softball diamond in Centennial Park for a report of smoke.
Firefighters entered the facility and located a cardboard trash can that had a fire blazing in it. The fire destroyed the trash can and melted a light fixture. Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire in the men’s restroom in a matter of a minute or two and used an exhaust fan to clear the building of smoke.
Park Superintendent Mike Hite was on the scene and said he is seeing more vandalism happening during the daylight hours.
Hite is encouraging citizens to take pride in the parks and pay attention to what is going on around them. He said, “If you see something suspicious contact the park office, a park employee or call the police.” He’s hoping someone may have seen kids paying near or around the restroom structure about 4:50 Friday afternoon and would call with details.
