Miller's_FlaggMiller’s Assisted Living resident Marvoline Lowry and Activity Director Cindy Flagg combined their talents and performed a short musical for fellow residents and guests on Friday afternoon, March 27th.  Music has been a large part of Lowry’s life since she was a young girl.  She learned to play the piano and always enjoyed using her gift during family gatherings and at church services.  When she moved to Miller’s she was invited to play for a weekly church service held each Friday.

Several months ago Lowry approached Flagg and asked if she might be interested in joining with her to perform a short musical that Lowry used to perform for her church lady’s meetings.  Flagg is no stranger to performance.  She also has been involved with music from and early age.
She has been involved in plays and musicals during her school career as well performing on stage with the Maxinkuckee Players and in several church musicals through out the years.  She is also a founding member of the Marshall County Church Orchestra.

When Lowry suggested they perform together, Flagg was quickly in agreement.  Lowry explained the short love story of Silas and Miranda and played through the songs that would be used to tell the story.  Flagg expanded on the story and together the two ladies rehearsed in the early evening when Flagg was finished with work.

The Miller’s Main Lobby was full to the brim with residents and friends who turned out to support Lowry and Flagg as they presented “The Story of Silas and Miranda”.  The musical told how Silas and Miranda met, courted, married and grew old together.  Songs in the musical included:  “School Days”, “Me and My Gal”, “Side By Side”, “He Keeps Me Singing”, “When Your Hair Has Turned to Silver” and “Put On Your Old Gray Bonnet”.  The audience seemed to enjoy being taken down memory lane with some favorite tunes of yesteryear.

Lowry and Flagg are now in the process of planning another short musical that will pay tribute to America and the Fourth of July.  The date of this program will be published in Miller’s July marketing tri-fold.  Anyone who would like to be on the mailing list to receive the monthly tri-fold should call 574-936-9801 and ask for Anna Corbett.
