City NEwsThe Plymouth Redevelopment Commission conducted their first meeting of 2015 and elected Dan Tyree as President, Mike Miley as Vice. President and Tom Pedavoli at Secretary.

Members were updated on the Metronet Project which is funded through TIF #1.  Brent Martin said, “Essentially the work is complete.  We are just waiting the as-built drawings.” He also said several private businesses and not-for-profits are using the Metronet.

The project came in substantially under the budgeted allocation even with the Redevelopment’s approval of an additional $175,000 last month for the city’s equipment to connect.  Martin commented that in the coming months he believes the board will be approached for looping connections to complete additional redundancy.

Michiana Contracting has requested release of the retainage for the River Park Square project in TIF #2.  Mike Reese noted that a bit of the seeding is not to spec.  The commission decided to release all of the retainage except for $500.

In TIF #3 the Commerce Building is basically ready for a business.  Sean Surissi, City attorney said the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation is has at work on prospects.  They are currently working on a couple of industries now.

A short discussion on the next phase of the South Gateway Project commenced.  Surrisi suggested getting requests for information from potential developers for the site.  The commission would be seeing if there is interest in potential development.

There have been suggestions of a mixed use development with retail spaces on the bottom and apartments or condos on the top for the site between the river and Penguin Point.    The board will look at the comprehensive plan and the Ratio Study from 2008 and continue their discussion next month.
