County Building_2Marshall County Commissioner Kevin Overmyer welcomed new member Kurt Garner to the board and Julie Fox as the new County Auditor during Monday’s meeting.

The first order of business was to reorganize the board with the election of officers.  Kevin Overmyer was retained as President while Debbie Griewank was selected as Vice President and Garner as member. Overmyer was also retained as the MACOG representative.

Laurie Baker and Jason Peters from the County Highway Department discussed the purchase of a new loader for the yard.  They have demoed a Honda, Volvo, John Deere, Cat and Case.   Cost estimates range from $170,000 up to $225,000. Baker said they only had $175,000 in the budget so they may need an additional to purchase the piece of equipment.  Because the cost will exceed the $150,000 threshold they will have to bid the project rather than quote it.

The commissioners also approved a two year contract with Great Lakes Laboratory for forensic testing. The contract will cover 2015 and 16 at an annual cost of $75,000.  This amount is substantially lower than last year’s at $84,000.  The higher cost was due to the number of tests being completed with nearly 280. The new agreement provides for 155 narcotic cases to test and 600 overall analyses, down from 175 narcotic cases and 700 analyses.

The Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office provides this service for all police agencies in the county under this contract.
