TritonHighSchool_JAFinance_1Recently Triton Jr./Sr. High School eighth graders visited the Junior Achievement Finance Park in Fort Wayne to have practical experience with the business/finance principals they have been studying in Mrs. Tracie Vermillion’s business class.

The students were given a life scenario with their career, monthly and annual income, marital status, and number of children. They were asked to create a budget by allocating all of their income into the budget categories on iPads.

TritonHIghSchool_JAFinance_CarsAfter creating their budget, the students used the iPads to shop for items in their budget categories and went around to the replicated store fronts to make their purchases. The scenario often threw them life situations causing students to make decisions on how to alter their purchases to fit their budgets.

Superintendent Donna Burroughs said. “It was a very worthwhile and eye opening experience for the students. Many were surprised they couldn’t afford the house or car they wanted with their given income.”

TritonHIghSchool_JAFInance_tableBurroughs thanked those individuals and businesses who financially sponsored these Junior Achievement classes and experiences for Triton students.
