MugShot_Brandon Adkins10-20-14WTCA reported a single vehicle accident on North Michigan Road north of 3rd Road Sunday afternoon. The crash occurred when the driver, 29 year old Brandon Adkins of Plymouth told emergency responders and County Officer Rob Hafke he fell asleep. Adkins was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for treatment of his injuries.

Crash_Michigan&3B_1 10-19-14Before police had his vehicle removed from the scene a routine inventory of items was completed. A suspicious backpack was located. One of the Indiana State Police Methamphetamine Suppression Teams was called to the scene to process the contents of the backpack.

A probable cause affidavit was prepared and presented to Judge Rob Bowen. He issues a warrant for Adkins’ arrest for the alleged offense of attempted manufacture of methamphetamine.

Adkins was released from Memorial Hospital before the warrant could be served. A subsequent investigation revealed his location in South Bend. The Marshall County Undercover Narcotics Team, and the South Bend Special Operations Section and other officers apprehended Adkins Monday night without incident.

Brandon Adkins was booked into the Marshall County Jail Monday night at 10:15 on a $5,005 cash bond.

Other agencies assisting in the investigation include the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, the Indiana State Police and the Plymouth Police Department.
