SJRMC logo_2013Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) is accepting registrations for its Wonderfully Made Christian childbirth preparation class.

The Wonderfully Made class teaches the spiritual benefits of birth in addition to addressing physical wellbeing. The detailed, Christ-centered course focuses on a mother’s labor, delivery and recovery.

“This is an amazing class and is truly unique to this region,” said Keely Paston, RN, administrative director of maternal child services.

“At SJRMC, our faith inspires us to attend to the whole person, including the soul. Most courses focus on only the physical and medical aspect of birth. Having a child is so much more; it’s really a spiritual event, gifted to mothers by God.”

All phases and stages of labor are covered, including:
• Comfort measures
• Medical intervention
• Caesarean birth
• Massage
• Relaxation and breathing techniques

Marjory McClure, childbirth educator for 27 years, created the course work in 1997, and shared it with SJRMC staff to teach to expectant mothers in the community.

“Giving birth is one of the most life-altering moments a mother will ever have,” McClure said. “Too often, we forget to include God in that moment. I created the course because, through my own experiences, I realized how we not only need to recognize the power, but presence of God in the miracle of birth.”

The four-night course is scheduled from 6-9 p.m. on October 20, 23, 27 and 30

All classes will be taught in the Education Centers at SJRMC — Mishawaka Campus (Garden Level). Registration for the course costs $75 and is required in advance. To register, call 866-757-6248. To learn more about SJRMC Maternal Child Services, click here.
