What’s new for the 2014 Marshall County Blueberry Festival?
Well there’s a corn-hole tournament this year on Sunday. The inaugural contest starts at noon on the basketball courts with registration and the competition commences at 1. This event is sponsored by the Tuesday Night Baggers and will benefit the Plymouth Elks Lodge. Cost is $40 per team and forms are available on the festival’s website at www.blueberryfestival.org.
The Living Statue, Mark Abbati will be around the festival all weekend. Did that just move? Enjoy the precision timing of Abbati as he watches and then participates with the crowd. Dressed as several different people or items, he will amaze you and make you laugh at yourself, as he hones in on different conversations, movements, or just stands for minutes at a time.
Also new this year is the Northern Darkness Garrison, Northern Indiana’s Chapter of the 501st Legion, which is an international Star Wars costuming organization that gives back to communities through volunteering, fundraising, and other charitable activities. They are a non-profit, volunteer organization whose mission is to support and promote charity and community through the love of Star Wars. They are approved by George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, as well as the Walt Disney Corporation who now owns the rights to Star Wars. You can visit their tent at the front of Centennial Park just north of the John Deere Booth.
The K-9 Crew Trick Dog Show rounds out new things for this year’s Blueberry Festival. Based out of New Castle, this high energy canine entertainment is the ultimate dog show experience. The K-9 Crew provides good clean family fun with routines to dazzle and delight audience members. You will find them performing multiple shows on Saturday, Sunday and Monday at the front of Centennial Park south of the Michigan Street Stage.
