Members of the Downtown Revitalization Commission discussed phase II of River Park Square during their meeting Wednesday.
Although there is no time frame for the second phase, the second phase of the Greenway Trail will end up in River Park Square and that should be completed in 2016.
Recently utility locates were completed saving a hefty fee from the designers. The city attorney informed Mayor Senter that the sole home on Cleveland Street can’t be used for the trail if FEMA money is used to purchase it.
Local architect Brent Martin and PIDCO representative on the commission said the property could be used but would require a bit of extra work. He said, “It’s just not as hard as people think.”
Martin also noted that there were two pieces of ground in Gill Park that are not owned by the city. One is privately owned and the other is listed as being the counties. It was suggested seeing if the park would enquire about a donation of the property versus the owner paying taxes on it.
Mayor Senter told Downtown Revitalization members that appraisals for the Deon property on South Michigan Street are in and he is hoping to begin negotiations. Members mentioned the condition of the property and how its appearance is a detriment to the South Gateway.
Senter also said Mike Morris, owner of Franklin Iron had stopped by his office and is moving to Nashville. He is interested in selling the property.
