Tuesday’s election in Michigan ended with a Plymouth High School grad winning the Democratic primary for State Representative in District 37.
Chris Jeffirs Greig from the PHS Class of 1981 beat out two other candidates to move on to the general election. It was clear less than two hours after the polls closed that Democrat Christine Greig will face Republican Richard Lerner in the race for the state House 37th District seat in November.
In unofficial results, Greig took first place in the Democratic race with 3,288 votes, followed by Barry Brickner with 2,729 and Theresa Rich with 2,244 votes. Greig took 39.80 percent of the 8,261 votes cast in the race. Brickner took 33.03 percent and Rich, 27.16 percent.
As she celebrated her win with family, friends and supporters Tuesday night, Greig said her success shows that voters in the district “really do want someone who is sincere and hardworking.”
Greig visited more than 6,000 homes in the past year to establish herself as a winning candidate. “That’s what it takes and what works,” she said, adding that she began the campaign about a year ago.
During the primary election cycle Greig raised a total of $84,603 and spent $58,354. Rich during the same reporting period raised $62,996 and spent $39,208. Brickner, Farmington Hills mayor, raised $21,589 and spent $15,999.
